As this is symbolic because it shoes Elbow and other character of the play are seen as being the funny bone of the play and this is providing comic relief. The constable, Elbow is a simple-minded to the point of him being ridiculous every time he comes into the play and makes an accusation. He Speaks in malapropisms and is a figure meant for the audience's enjoyment, rather than to advance the plot Shakespeare uses the character of Elbow to provide comic relief through the language and the way he speaks because throughout the play uses malapropism as this is farcical because no one takes his words seriously. An example of this is when he says "my wife, sir, whom I detest before heaven and you honour" as this is malapropism because he says 'detest' instead of him saying 'protest'. Doing this makes Elbow seem like an idiot in front of everybody because in the play he is blinded by the goddess of his wife whereas everyone know the truth. As Elbow cannot contain his wife and this is farcical because his watchman of Vienna as his job is to contain the people of Vienna to follow the law.
