What is a Totem Pole? First off, totem poles come from first nations and they are wood carvings on large trees. The carvings are spirit animals and every totem pole is different. I made an origami “Totem pole” for an assignment for a novel. My totem pole had many different animals on it that relate to me, and they are in order of past, present, and future. I will be explaining why I chose those specific animals for a specific time, such as, the past, present, and future.
The coyote and wolf are spirit animals and have special meanings to First Nations people. My totem pole has those three animals and more on it because they describe me right now in the present. The bull’s meaning is independence, being more present, lifting up negativity, bringing playfulness and joy in your life, swiftness, ability to respond quickly and resiliency, being able to travel great distances tirelessly. I have chosen the bull for my future because I would love to travel, be independent, more present and lifting up negativity. Traveling would bring playfulness and joy in my life and in the future, I would like to be swift, respond quickly. Now for the bear, the reason I have chosen this animal for my past is because it means Industrious, instinctive, healing, power, sovereignty, guardian of the world, watcher, courage, willpower, self-preservation, introspection, and great strength. In the past, I had all of what is in the description of the bear and that is why I have chosen the bear for my past on my totem pole. The bull and bear are both physically strong and aggressive, but the meanings of both those animals are nothing near their physical
