According to the dictionary, definition of menstrual cycle is “The series of bodily changes in women and other female primates in which the lining of the uterus thickens to allow for implantation of a fertilized egg. The cycle takes about a month to complete, with ovulation usually occurring around the midway point. If the egg produced is not fertilized, the lining of the uterus breaks down and is discharged during menstruation.” However one incident has changed the whole meaning and definition of menstrual cycle in my life.
Three years ago, I got married and moved to Delhi, Capital of India. I was received as a new member in the family. My mother in law wanted to invite a couple of people to lunch and have a prayer ceremony at home. I was a bit nervous as I was new and unfamiliar with my surroundings and anyone, I didn’t don’t know anything about the culture and customs.
The very next day my mother in law asked me to inform her when I get my period. The way she asked me felt weird, but I thought maybe she was very caring and showing concern or she wanted me to feel more comfortable, as the first and second day of my cycle is very painful. Coincidence, I got my period the very next day, it was my first time, but I informed my mother in law as she asked me to and started working in the kitchen.
