Mean Girls was viewed and analyzed from a cultural perspective. The movie focuses on Cady Heron, a girl who has been home schooled her entire life, and her assimilation into high school culture. The ethnic/cultural groups portrayed in the movie are discussed as well as the cultural themes of individuality, man vs. society, and overcoming adversity. The cultural conflicts and resolutions are also discussed in depth. The movie showed a resemblance to real life but certain aspects were a little over exaggerated.

ROTC Guys. This group of students happens to be a part of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps.
JV Jocks. The JV Jocks are a group of high school student-athletes that play on one of the sports teams provided at the high school. The sport teams vary from soccer, football and lacrosse to swimming, tennis, rugby and many more. The JV team is below varsity. The teams are picked is off by skill level. To simplify, these students didn’t make the cut for varsity and were chosen to be JV.
Preps. This group of students is described as coming from a preparatory school background. Unlike the other students, they are poised and stuck up. They also maintain social graces due to their background.
Asian Nerds. The Asian nerds are a group of high school students with a Pacific Islander/Asian background. They spend most of their time being studious and are deemed as lacking social skills in the normal high school setting.
Cool Asians. This group of high school students also has a Pacific Islander/Asian background. They are more sociable and blend in better with their settings. They are deemed cool by both their appearances and social status among their …show more content…
The cultural themes in the movie such as individuality were portrayed accurately. This was shown by Cady’s struggle to find her place within a particular subculture that suited her best. Moreover, Cady transitioned from a nice, innocent girl into a mean, popular plastic. Furthermore, the movie had a strong resemblance to high school culture, but we felt that the subcultures in the movie were over exaggerated (See Ethnic/Cultural Groups). As described in the Ethnic/Cultural Groups, these subgroups are clearly overstated, but the aspect of high schools having different subcultural groups is valid. Overall, our group felt as if the movie was able to display high school culture accurately to a good extent but several aspects, such as subcultural groups, were over exaggerated or improperly displayed in the
