Meals On Wheel Reflection Paper

After spending the past few weeks at the Town of Huntington Senior center, one thing I have come to notice is that many of the clients there as well as other residents of the of Suffolk County receive Meals on Wheels. Meals on wheels will deliver one meal a day, Monday through Friday. Many of the elderly population rely on these meals daily because they don't have easy access to food, or cooked meals on their own. Food Preferences and Meal Satisfaction of Meals on Wheels Recipients surveyed participants of the Meals on Wheels program to find out how they felt about the meals they were receiving. Overall the feedback on the meals were positive. (CITE) One of the main complaints that they had was that the food is to tough. One on going issue that the many of the elderly have is that that they need to eat softer food due to oral problems that make chewing more difficult for them. I’ve noticed this as well when at my internship, depending on the meal and the toughness of the meal equaled how many people would eat it in full or at all. also unfortunately because you are feeding so many people you cant please everyone. Overall Meals on Wheels is a fantastic program that helps so many people in need and helps the elderly stay in their own homes for a longer period of time by helping them stay independent. This article was helpful and relevant to where I am placed because it gave me a better understanding of who benefits from this program and what this program does. Over the next few weeks the place that I am interning at wants me to mainly focus on this Meals on Wheels and reach out to those in Huntington who could benefit from this program. Overall this is a fantastic program that helps so many people nationwide and hopefully it will continue to
