Me Before You Character Analysis

Great Essays
In the novel Me Before You and the novel Of Mice and Men, you can find many similarities. Some similarities include one person caring for the other both physically, mentally, and emotionally, having the same ending which is an unwanted death, both ‘main characters’ were hard working and had many things in common.

The novel Me Before You is a great example of showing how caring for someone not physically but emotionally also, can go a long way. For example, in the book, Lou tries to come up with ideas for Will, to try and persuade him not to end his life. While doing this, she tries some of these ideas out and some have worked out for the better and some for the worst, but the point is that she is trying to do something meaningful for Will.

In Me Before You, one of the main characters is Lou Clark, she is Will Traynor’s caregiver and all she wants is the best for Will. Lou lives in a small house with her mother, father, sister and her nephew. Money is tight, and Lou had lost her job that she had worked at for 6 years, so she decided to go for an interview at the Traynor’s place and the rest is history. At first, Will was giving her such a hard time but eventually over time, he got nicer and easier to talk to. Then Lou found out about Will wanting to kill himself, so she did everything in her power to try and change his mind, she even created a list. “Go on a tube train ( most underground stations don’t have lifts), go swimming, without help, and unless the temperature was warm enough to stop involuntary shivering within in minutes, go to the cinema, unless guaranteed a seat in the front, or unless Wills spasms were low grade that day, go to the beach, unless your tiers were adapted with “fat tiers” Wills hadn’t, go shopping, go anywhere too hot too cold (temperature issues) (Moyes, 221)” This quote is Lou talking about some of the ideas she has written down. Most of these ideas have things that could go bad or wrong. When Lou got this job, all she needed to do was make sure Will was cared for, but she went above and beyond what was expected of her. …show more content…
But the biggest similarity about these two books is probably the fact that they both focused a lot about being selfless and caring, Lou had only just meet Will but a couple months of getting to know each other they were closer then ever, George had know Lennie since they were kids and that just made their bond stranger then

Although both The Pearl and Of Mice and Men are both written by John Steinbeck and have many similarities, such as the destruction of the main character’s dreams, their resolutions are extremely different. Although both books have a character who was extremely close to the main character die at the end, the manner of death of these characters are very different. Unlike how Lennie was very peacefully shot and was happy right before he died, Coyotito was killed in a much more depressing way. The death of each character in each novel is vastly different, but they both effectively crush the living character’s dream. Some may say that the resolution of the two stories are the same because a character dies in each, however they could not be more different.…

Many novels and books can look to be compared to each other with simple comparisons, but can actually still be completely different once they are looked into further. In the film Rain Man, directed by Barry Levinson and written by Barry Morrow and Ronald Bass, and the novel, Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, share many comparisons, but the comparisons themselves are too different to see an eye to eye overlapping comparison. Some comparisons are clearer than others, but the ones that stand out the most are in the frustration between George (Of Mice and Men) and Charlie (Rain Man). During the film Rain Man, it shows many incidents where Charlie ends up yelling at Ray because he was doing something that he didn’t like or found, in his words, “retarded”.…

“An’ why? Because….because I got you to look after me, and you got me to look after you, and that’s why” (Steinbeck 14). In John Steinbeck’s novel, Of Mice and Men, he portrays a story of a mentally handicapped man born in the wrong generation. The novel shows many differences between mentally handicapped Lennie and his best friend, with full mental capacity, George. Although George and Lennie have countless differences and play contrasting roles, they are alike in several ways. The way the story is written, it would not have been the same without Lennie’s character not having a mental illness.…
