Now she has to ask herself Do she want to continue pretending about her love life or is she willing to have a real relationship with Liam? And can she make amends for the lies she told even to her best friend, Tess? Even though Mallory has some family issues and boy problems she still holds her head up high she feel as if she want to focus on making everyone happy but deep down inside she’s wishing someone would make her happy. “ I’m just tired of my mother thinking i’m responsible for Darby’s actions sometime I need a break too I want to be happy,” Mallory said. “I just think we need to get out of the house,” Tess said. “Liam just called asking if we want to meet up at the mall, Do you want to go?” “sure,” said Tess. A negative character in this story is Tess mother boyfriend Darren. He would always get mad and hit them and she always made excuses. “It was my own fault.” “I don’t believe that for a minute, Tess.” “It was. Darren was over again, and he was being drunk and stupid, and he kind of hit on me.” Tess and mallory were best friends, more like sisters and they’ll do anything to help one

In both history and modern-day society, there are many roles that women have been and are expected to play, such as the nurturing mother, doting wife, or submissive partner. These roles greatly influence the characterization of literary females by pressuring them into a kind of box that reduces their potential to become complex and well-rounded characters; instead, the presence of women is often trivialized within fiction to merely portray what is expected by society, creating a deficit of strong female characters who have individual personalities outside of their use to the plot. Zora Neale Hurston examines several of these roles through her book, Their Eyes Were Watching God, which follows a black woman, Janie, through her three marriages and her simultaneous personal self-discovery. While Janie begins her…

The reader is introduced to gendered modes of experiencing the world since the story is told from the wife’s perspective instead of her husband’s. Carver’s narrative choice to frame the story from the perspective of Claire, places the reader into Claire’s shoes to piece together how small instances create her overall psychological turmoil. Claire’s relationship with Stuart perpetuates the demise of her psychological health since she feels uncomfortable to explicitly…
