I rated him as a five on the scale of master and slave morality. Harding lives in a denial state where he blames his wife for having affairs to put off that he may be homosexual. He sees the good and bad consequences of his decisions, and takes much pride in himself. He prides himself on his extensive knowledge, as well as being able to lead the pack at times. Before McMurphy, Harding was the group leader, but then later passed it on to McMurphy. He thinks that what is bad, then must be bad for himself as well. He is in the middle of the scale though because despite having traits of the master he does as the slave too. He is a pessimistic person and bases his life of his guilt and fear. He measures himself to others since they are heterosexual
