McMaster values inclusiveness and I have personally demonstrated this via my volunteerism outside of my work. I have volunteered in a wide variety of roles and served an array of communities which are reflective of the culturally diverse City of Toronto. In particular, I believe my experience at the Royal Ontario Museum is valuable. At the Museum I have encountered many cultures from all over the world in both emergency and non emergency situations. Working with both visitors and staff has taught me that strength is found in cultural and experiential diversity. Everyone brings something unique and powerful to the team in an organization and that inclusivity is essential to the success of the team.

Over the last ten years, at the Royal Ontario Museum I have demonstrated team work and critical thinking in my role as a security guard. I have initiated and maintained professional relationships with my colleagues in the department to deal with daily operational challenges. My role as a security guard demands the ability to critically analyze and respond to dynamic situations, in particular medical emergencies and crowd management situations. The teamwork over the years has created effective systems between the departments and strengthened everyone’s ability to rely on one

Learning to write When I attended elementary school, part of the curriculum was penmanship. There was a certain segment of instruction dedicated to penmanship rather than writing. We were given large sheets of oat colored paper with three parallel lines widely spaced. The alphabets were used to print and write in cursive using the midpoint, and upper lines for capital letters. The handwriting grades were based on neatness and readability.…

I have always had a hard time to understand why people often take chances where they risk their lives. I believe that people who do that often have problems with themselves, or they feel a need to always “live on the edge. ” I cannot understand why people are chasing adrenaline by doing something extreme that might be the end of their life. This semester in Ms. Wagner’s accelerated english class I learned many important writing techniques that massively improved my writing, like how to use TIQA format in paragraphs, how to avoid bad habits such as the use of “to be” verbs or the overuse of commas, and how to properly write a thesis statement. One of the first skills I learned this semester is how to organize my paragraphs into TIQA format. TIQA formatting is a way to set up a paragraph to keep it nice and neat. It stands for topic sentence (or transition), intro to quote, quote, and analysis. The best example of my improvement using this technique is one of the first writing pieces I did in English this year, the Book of Sands thematic paragraph.…
