In my opinion Supreme Court nominee's political views should play a role in the approval by the Senate and is an influential factor in their appointment. Since the president is elected with a certain political view and nominate who he thinks will be appointed and pass the Senate approval process he wouldn't choose anyone that didn't have the same political views as his own, or his party or what is believed will directly impact the future of decisions. Even if throughout history, those that were elected and rejected came from particular political points of views then there is no way that political views aren't a factor by the Senate's
