He best describes it by stating “… but it is often, especially in the middle class, spent largely and wholly by the teens” (Etzioni 18). He also argues that “… But large amounts seem to flow to pay for an early introduction into the most trite aspects of American consumerism: flimsy puck clothes, trinkets and whatever else is the last fast moving craze” (Etzioni 18). He points out that when teenagers have money from working, they will mostly spend it because working at fast-food chain does not teach them how to manage money. I disagree with Etzioni about this argument because I believe working can help high school students understand the value of money due to the fact that they have to do work in order to money for their needs. Nowadays, there are ton of things that teenagers can spend money on; it is not easy to get everything that your children want if you do not make enough. You have to cut off their allowance on their unnecessary stuffs like make up, football tickets, game tickets, games, fancy headphone etc. Students should not have to only rely on their parents; they should rely on their selves also. For example, in order to have money to spend over the weekends like movie tickets, coffee, milk tea, etc. your child need to work at least couple hours a week for that. Or if your son has a date, he should have some money to take his girl friend out for movie or dinner. Therefore, it is important to teach them the value of money and have your child work at least couple hours a week. By having a job, it will show what working for their money actually means. If they use their own money they earn, they will learn how to be financially responsible. Hence, I disagree with him, in my opinion, teenagers will learn the value of their hard working
