McDaniel college offers an exceptional and personalized education. The McDaniel Plan provides students with a liberal arts education that incorporates an inclusive program of general education with courses in the major (“The McDaniel Plan,” n.d.).
The English Department allows students to think creatively as well as explore various aspects of literature. Choosing to pursue a major in English will also give the student the option to minor in journalism, education, or literature and writing. Students are offered a chance to focus on a topic of choice, whether that be a time period or author, during an intensive period of study. They can also choose to pair their English major with a minor in education, literature, and even journalism. It is also common that English majors become involved with The Yellow Jacket, which is Randolph-Macon’s newspaper (“Academics,” n.d.). Study Abroad is also available for students during the January term or even for an entire semester. The courses that are available are both intriguing and challenging. This program is a way for students to step out of their comfort zone to explore and enjoy a new culture (“Academics,” n.d.). The University of Delaware has a lot to offer in terms of academics. With challenging courses that cause students to dig deeper into their thoughts and better themselves academically. This makes Randolph-Macon a great college to go to in order to have exceptional internship opportunities. The town surrounding the college also has locally owned businesses as well as arts fairs and bike routes (“Academics,” n.d.). The University of Delaware is a public university, costing about $43,050 for out of state students (“UD Tuition and Cost Guide,” n.d.). It is on a 4-1-4 academic calendar, which means that it has a January term for students to study abroad or take an intensive study (“Overview,” n.d.). While this University is larger than the other colleges I’ve researched, with 18,141 undergraduates, students like that they feel as though they are getting a personalized education at a larger university (“College Life Presents,” 2015).
The opportunities feel unlimited at the University of Delaware. There are a lot of things to do around the college like restaurants and stores to go to. Hundreds of clubs are also established for students to join a group that interests them. These clubs could be hobbies, community service, or media related.
