Mccoy Leadership Style

“Josh what are you doing” Coach McCoy shouted at me. He continued to say “Run faster, work harder.” As Coach McCoy yelled words at me, I could not help but think why was he yelling at me only, because after all everyone else in the room was moving at the same pace. As he yelled more, I took his advice and worked harder, I passed the guys that were running in front of me and I felt the level of work in the room rise. Everyone started trying to pass each other, and Coach McCoy continued to yell at me to keep up the pace. At the time I did not understand why he was trying to push me. However, reflecting back now, I understand exactly why Coach McCoy yelled at me.

His job directly entails him leading a staff of 9 assistant coaches and 38 members of the Varsity team. Furthermore, it is his direct duty to make sure that our program is continuing to get better in order for us to get a step closer to reaching our team goal, of becoming national champions. In the beginning of the semester, I stated that leadership is not a one man show and my definition of leadership would be a person who can genuinely step up as a leader and motivate others to push themselves past their comfort levels to achieve greatness; they need to be able truly engage with them and understand the human nature that comes into …show more content…
The example used with Coach McCoy is a representation of a situation that I learned from analysing the actions of another leader. There are many aspects about myself that I did not know about until I learned more in depth information about leadership and different leadership styles which has helped me to develop as a better leader. Today, my definition of leadership has changed and I believe that each leader contains a plethora of different qualities. I recognize that each leader is different, in regards to their leadership styles, but I believe that all great leaders have the ability to set a clear goal, and vision for their followers. Furthermore, leaders must be able to take inventory and advantage of the things that motivate their followers and must be able to understand the “Complexity of Identity.” Lastly, I believe leaders have the ability to put their followers before you, so in the long run it will their followers productivity will be
