McCann Regan Campbell Ward (RCW) is an advertising agency under a well-respected Fortune 500 company, the Interpublic Group of Companies, Inc. McCann RCW specializes in providing marketing services for companies retailing pharmaceutical products. The advertising industry is very competitive; to be successful in this industry, one must develop and maintain a high-performance work system. This paper will discuss ways in which McCann RCW mirrors a high performing organization.

An organizational structure is a key element to a high-performance work system – it is the way an organization groups its people into useful divisions, departments, and reporting relationships (Noe et al., 2015). Categorizing and grouping jobs that require similar knowledge, skills, and resources contributes to efficiency and promotes the development of greater expertise. It is important that departments are not excluded from other departments to allow the exchange of ideas and different perspectives. As a marketing company, all of the departments frequently communicate with each other to complete assignments and projects. Therefore, departments have the opportunity to learn and appreciate how other departments function. In addition, McCann RCW’s organizational structure enables entry-level employees to learn and develop their skills from their senior colleagues and managers have been proven to prepare employees for future positions within the company. Developing employees, cross-training, and teamwork is essential to a high-performance work
