In chapter 11 page 115, Billie mentions that Chris was really good at making money. This was ironic because making money was the worst thing he hated even though he was really good at it. This line is profound to me because it shows me that being good at something and liking something have no connection, whatsoever. For example, Christ had a real talent for making money but he never really applied the skill he made in the real world because he hated it so much. This creates a paradox because being a “natural-born capitalist” meant that he was naturally born rich making him love money, but in the case of McCandless, he hated money.
