A man who participated in many shows and brought awareness to the present drug issues, Edwyn Mc Kenzie, has tragically fallen victim to his own enemy. Mc Kenzie was found dead September 1st, at the age of 52, in a very drug infested neighbourhood in Hoboken, New Jersey. Whilst the sort of drugs remains unknown and the cause of death has not yet been confirmed, it is under investigation by the New Jersey police.
Mc Kenzie was brought up in Glagow, Scotland, by his orthodox Catholic parents. In 1982-1984 he even got a role of a drug addicted teenage boy in the British soap opera “Low Life - High Life”. He was however fired in the end, when rumour spread that he was abusing drugs, once again.
Headlines appeared when young Mc Kenzie married the German actress and singer Ava Glitz in 1984, but not only because of the marriage itself; Mc Kenzie was marrying a woman 25 years older than himself. Numerous newspapers also questioned both Glitz and Mc Kenzie’s sexualities. The two of them only held for two years, as the couple already divorced in 1986. Afterwards, Mc Kenzie moved to New York to live with his manager Ned Harty.
Although the musical film Too Fast to Live he stars in is low budget, the soundtrack CD sells 12 million copies. The film, which plot is rather similar to Mc Kenzie’s life, was about a young man attempting to become a singer in New York. The CD ironically lead to Mc Kenzie’s successful singing career, and although Mc Kenzie was accused for lip syncing and faking his records, the singer became popular and CDs continued to sell.
