Growing up, music always played a big role in my life. I found my love for the business aspect of the arts while I was pursuing my Bachelor’s degree at Ithaca College. Planning and executing various performances, fundraising events and educational programs was exciting and gratifying for me, which led to my decision to pursue a career in arts administration and attend graduate school.

As a current graduate student in the Arts Administration program at the College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), I understand the importance of pursuing a master’s degree to advance my learning. Arts administration involves incorporating the arts and business to bring the arts to the community and to make the arts accessible to people of diverse backgrounds. It requires a balance between artistic creativity and management skills. While I have fifteen years of experience as a musician, I only have three years of experience working for nonprofit organizations. I believe that an MBA will give me the educational experience that will enable me to successfully run a nonprofit arts organization.

A nonprofit’s first goal is to fulfill its mission, but the organization must also be financially successful in order to grow to meet the needs of the community. I want my MBA to advance my career and to have a competitive edge in the nonprofit sector. Nonprofit organizations often look for their leadership to have advanced business degrees. I have already started taking courses at the Lindner College of Business. I am already able to apply what I’ve learned in my classes at CCM, as well as while working for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and in the External Relations Department at CCM.
