The day of December 7, 2015, just 4 days after the Montgomery Bell Academy football team lost a close overtime game to a local rival, Brentwood Academy, in the state championship, the MBA bowling team had an opportunity to clinch a state tournament bowling appearance for the first time since 2011. Four starting seniors, a sophomore, and I led the team to a twelve and three record. While on the way to that impressive mark, the team defeated the two time reigning TSSAA state championship team, Friendship Christian Academy, led by their ace bowler and two time individual TSSAA state champion, Donnie Turner. The MBA bowling team had a stunning turnaround in the program, after finishing eight and eight last year, the team was on the way to one of …show more content…
I put my green and purple Ebonite ball, Disorder, on the rack. The first of three games started at 3:30 after ten minutes of practice time. We had a team meeting before we started the match, and Captain Jackson Wooten gave an uplifting speech telling us that he didn’t have to say anything to pump us up because we all knew what we had to do. The vice captain, Ben Coulthard, Grayson Fettroll, and I were on one lane, and we were willing to give all we had to win the match at hand. Once the first match ended the game was tied at four to four, and we were winning by a close margin of 28 pins. As the game carried on, our team held a commanding lead after the second game leading ten to six by 34 pins. After the second match, Coach Sanders pulled us all together as a team, and he gave us an uplifting speech. Coach Sanders told us we can’t lose focus although we are winning. He also said we have to keep our foot on the gas and whip their tails, and he reminded us of all the Friday weight room workouts we had gone through to reach this point. He told us to give it our all for the seniors that helped to build the program since they were

Therefore, this was a team of small freshmen and sophomores playing against mostly juniors and seniors at the varsity level in one of the most talented high school conferences in the state. We finished the season 1-15, most of which were pretty tough losses but we worked hard and left it all on the field every game and that in the end is all that matters. The most prevalent memory was after the last game all the players were pretty upset about how it went but our coach ended our last huddle with, “We came into this season knowing it would be challenging and we worked hard from start to finish and I think we ended this season better than we started, which means that next year is gonna be a pretty good…

As the current coaching staff knew, we were struggling without the guidance of our previous coach: every meet was like going into enemy territory, with little hometown crowd support. When our new Coach reminded us that we were unified and could stand with one another knowing that we’d triumph, we were rejuvenated. Commencing our execution of every meet in intention, we were conscious that our effort would amount to…

Our coach brought us together at the half and told us this aphorism. This really got us pumped up because we remembered all of the hard work that we had put into practice and we knew that if we did all that we learned and played 100% then we had a chance to win or at least tie. We were also pumped because we were reminded that it would be the last home game for our seniors and we wanted to give our all for them and wanted to win this game for them. We came out strong the next half and played our hearts out, we never gave up. We ended up catching…

With an 8-0 record and a combined point total of 217-14, everyone in our district had high expectations. As the seasons changed and the leaves broke apart and disappeared from sight, so did our highly coveted class of 2018. Half of my teammates either open enroll to other schools or just simply quit with no rhyme or reason to why. What would follow within the next three seasons was nothing less of an absolute beatdown from our opponents. I won't lie, it was heart-wrenching to witness all the work us remaining boys put in and to still have no trophy or banner to represent our efforts.…

With everyone on the bus, and accounted for, I looked back into the steamy field as the lights turn off one by one. My sunburn lines between my shorts and socks symbolized the restless, tiring hours spent out on the field. Every Tuesday and Thursday, for two and a half hours, the sun scorched my body while my legs would scrape into the ground. The cluster consisted of the seniors’ looming bodies that would go shoulder to shoulder against my own freshman self as our feet would battle for control. While this exhaustion enthralled and encouraged my game, the sprints, planks, runs, and more caused me to dread going to that grassy field every week. The humidity produced heavy, useless pants from my lungs as my throat would feel as if it was closing in from a claustrophobic nightmare.…

Throughout my short life journey, soccer has been an enormous part of my life. I began playing soccer at a young age; this is the point in my life when I fell in love with the sport. As I grew older soccer became less of a hobby, and more of a lifestyle. Today, I am literate in the sport of soccer, because I have proficient skills, and a firm understanding of the game. The average NFL game lasts about three hours and twelve minutes due to the commercials, timeouts, and reviewing plays. These issues make it difficult to watch a three hours NFL game when the ball is only in play for eleven minutes. My solution to these issues is a microchip in the football that measures where the ball is on the field at all time. The tracking chip is called IT(Information Technology)Football, since the ball is being tracked it would be easier to determine first downs because when the ball crosses the first down marker a sensor will alarm letting the official know it’s a first down and not having to waste time and review a obvious play that is either a first down or touchdown. The microchip will make it easier to determine what is a catch in the NFL.…

We were all glad to have placed well, but were overall disappointed in losing first place by one measly point. Setting the mood for remembering our countless failures and long practices, the seniors went around the group, giving each member of the team their own little speech. When they got to me, every single senior noted how much I had changed over the season. Listening to them recount the season to me, it truly hit me how different I was compared to the beginning of the season. Senior speeches had opened a book of memories for me.…
