GTCC Class Reflection

To earn an associates degree from Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) one must take and pass certain classes in order to transfer to a four year institute. One of these many classes is ACA 122-College Transfer Success. It is a one credit course designed to help students who are new to the world of community college and transferring to succeed in the future. For me personally I was not so lucky. This is my last semester at GTCC so this class has been a bit of an annoyance rather than helpful, because a large section of the class is geared towards planning out one’s course schedule for their remanning semesters at GTCC. If I had taken it back in the fall of 2014 when I first started at GTCC I would have gotten a lot more out of the class. …show more content…
For me it took at least two semesters to truly understand how WebAdviser worked. It wasn 't even until the end of my second semester that I even knew what a program evaluation was or how to find it. Trying to navigate through GTCC’s websites to find the requirements for an associates in Science was almost impossible and took many hours of trial and error. If I had taken this class my first semester I would not have run into any of these issues. For a student like my self this class could be seen as not necessary but for students just starting at GTCC this class would be very helpful and in the long run even time saving. Not only does this class teach students how to navigate through GTCC’s many websites it also helps students plan out there future at GTCC and beyond. If I had had this class my first semester I would have had a better understanding of the classes I needed and I probably would have graduated last spring. Another aspect of the course is explaining the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (CAA) and how it works and applies to the individual, which is quite important when you go to transfer. This class helps you understand the college system in a lot more detail and explains and helps the students navigate through it allowing for a more seamless …show more content…
As one of the first classes one should take ACA-122 it would teach its students the basics for success in their two years at GTCC and beyond. To have a class that teaches you how to use the schools websites to their full potential makes sense and is a great idea, but needs to be explained to new and incoming students. This class is great for helping students understand the qualities associated with good academic performance and in explaining how to implement them in their own lives. When a student is finished with this class they will have the tools and resources needed for success along with a personal understanding of themselves as a student and as a life long

One thing that this ACA-122 class has taught me is how to email somebody properly; such as a professor, teacher, or anyone really. It’s impacted me because I had questions and had to email someone, but I didn’t know the correct format and how. The second thing is time management. Yes, you will have a ton of assignments due, but you have at least three weeks to do it for ACA. It impacted me because I do procrastinate and if you do that, it can be a problem for ACA.…

This course was extremely intriguing and had me hooked from the first discussion forum. It required me to venture out of my comfort zone and ask questions that others viewed as odd, but I knew was going to assist me in my studies. I can recall one specific instance where I was on twenty-four-hour duty and I began asking a police officer doing his security checks questions. It had to be two in the morning and you can tell by the exhausted look on his face when he walked through the bitter cold into our dimly lit building entrance. He spoke with very little energy as he said good morning, but once I began asking him the list of questions that I just so happened to have typed on my laptop screen he immediately perked up and began to speak with life.…

Every assignment not only helped me to gain knowledge about different topics but also help me understand their meaning and how they reflect in our life. Ex. I never knew what is Emotion & learning was until I was given the assignment. There I found emotion is very muchly involved in our daily learning and it either builds our motivation to learn or could also discourage us to learn.…

Goal I The first goal of the program was to “Apply major concepts, theoretical perspectives, empirical findings, and historical trends in psychology to prepare for graduate study or careers in which psychological training is relevant”(). Two classes met this goal, Introduction to Psychology (PSY 111) taken at Anne Arundel Community College, and Introduction to Counseling Psychology (PSYC 432) taken at the University of Maryland University College. Introduction to Psychology was the first psychology course I took many years ago. It was the class I took because I had an empty slot on my schedule.…
