To collect the baseline data I will use a probe the tests reading comprehension. The probe I will use is called A Maze Passage Generator, this probe creates and generates sentences to test reading comprehension. In the generated passage, the person recording the data will insert a grade level passage. The generator will then take the passage to find keywords and will underline them. Next to

As a whole, the class average was around 60% percent, meaning the class is on the developing or adequate level of understanding the learning objective. A quarter of the class passed the assessment with 85 or better, which is considered a mastery under the math curriculum followed. Half the class scored a 65 or less. This shows that these students have a minimal to no understanding of the concept being taught. 8 out of the sixteen students understood procedurally and conceptually how to compare to objects with a third object.…

S’niya, a fourth-grade student at Miramar Elementary School, was given four assessments from a Scholastic resource packet that helps to determine what level of reading a student is currently achieving. The Scholastic resource assessments allow a teacher to establish an idea of the student’s reading proficiency and also helps to conclude what sort of instructional plan would best suit the needs of each individual student. With the Clinical Educator’s discretion, S’niya was assigned to complete a third-grade phonics and vocabulary assessment, and a fourth-grade phonics and vocabulary assessment. Based on past test scores, the teacher speculated that was a possibility that S’niya was not working on par with her grade level.…

Analysis of Running Records The names below are the names of the students that I have assessed by performing running records according to their instructional reading level. Kelly, Lilly, Roxanne, and Andres are reading below grade level, they are English Language Learners and they are in an all English instruction classroom. For all four students, I used reading assessments from the McGraw-Hill Website which provided me reading passages with two questions at the end to check for comprehension. Since my students are reading at different reading levels, I had to provide them with different reading passages based on their reading levels, I used a total of two different passages since I have two students reading at first grade level, and the…

Throughout the Maze Runner the characters are presented with many problems they must address in order to survive. These problems change their personalities and views on life making them more aware and more serious. For example, in the beginning of the book we view Thomas as not confident and overly curious, but as the book continues we see him beginning to become more confident and understanding of his surroundings. Another character we see change is Chuck who used to be scared of death and had very little courage but in the end he tragically dies so Thomas can live. To me…

For example will assessment be initial/pre course, formative, summative or based on recognised prior learning. The assessor will need to decide the methods or activities to be used for assessment such as observations, performance evidence, discussion or witness/learner statement. How knowledge and understanding is going to be assessed also needs careful thought and could include tests, multiple choice questions, written assignment/task, a reflective journal, verbal questioning or naturally occurring evidence, all of which need to be fit for purpose and relate to the learner’s specific needs. Further considerations for assessment planning are to determine who will be assessing the learning/learner and how progress will be monitored and reviewed following feedback. 3.2 Evaluate the benefits of using a holistic approach to…

As far back as I can remember, reading has always been a tremendous part of my life. Growing up, my mother introduced reading as one of the most important skills I could learn. Throughout my childhood, my entire family constantly incorporated reading into my daily schedule by helping me complete word searches, reading books, or rehearsing the ABC’s. Every night before bed, my mother and I would read a page out of a children’s bible book called Blessings Every Day as opposed to the classic Green Eggs and Ham. Reading has taught me how to exercise my imagination, how to effectively communicate with others, and relieves my stress.…

In this paper, the texts “1984” by George Orwell and “The Maze Runner” by James Dashner will be compared and analysed, in specific the language and stylistic features used to portray the different perspectives on the ideas of oppression and helplessness. The point of view of “Big Brother” and the theme of higher power are vastly used in both of these texts, along with both the conforming and rebelling point of views, all of which will be examined in this paper. In both novels, “1984” and “The Maze Runner”, a “Big Brother” point of view is portrayed through language and stylistic features in the texts, and these techniques show how this unknown and seemingly mysterious higher power can manipulate and control the characters. The key similarity…

During guided practice the ultimate goal for the teacher is that the student is able to use the reading skills and comprehension processes that they were taught to comprehend text independently. Before students are able to do this though, teachers do guided practice to provide students time to practice a concept or skill that they were taught with support from their teacher. Effective questioning is important during this part of the lesson to make sure that students master the skills and concepts that they were being taught. During this time the teacher releases the responsibility of thinking to the students in a gradual process. This part also allows the teacher to determine if they need to reteach portions of the lesson.…
