Mayo Clinic Personal Statement

Mayo Clinic School of Medicine’s M.D. program offers dynamic opportunities, a refined curriculum, and a prestigious reputation that distinguishes it from other medical schools. In regards to the preliminary curriculum, the amalgamation of learning and clinical exposure is evident through the integration of clinical learning in relation to the topics presented. This curriculum is structured in such a way that plays into my strengths, including my ability to learn effectively in hands-on environments. Obtaining the medical knowledge needed to become a physician through a combination of clinical exposure and lectures will allow me to construct connections between symptomatic presentations and corresponding organ system issues. This ensures that matriculates develop into politically and ethically informed physicians capable of responding and adapting to changes in healthcare. In particular, the focus on population and person centered care reflects my values. From my experience in Argentina, I was placed in an environment where listening was the primary diagnostic tool. As a result, I wish to enroll in a school that emphasizes patient-centered care through thorough communication and a population-centered care especially the global community. Additionally, the curriculum offers a degree of flexibility in the form of selective blocks, providing opportunities to broaden my academic experience, foster my own curiosity, and endeavor on an intellectual pursuit outside of a structured curriculum that will allow me to develop skills necessary for future use as a physician.
