The U.S. News’s fourth best rated diet overall is the Mayo Clinic Diet. (U.S. News web) The diet takes off with a two-week quick start “Lost It” plan which highlights fifteen habit changes then follows with the second part of the diet called “Live It”. All these changes along with utilization of the Mayo Clinic Food Pyramid is a plan one can follow to lose some weight fast and progressively if followed as indicated. I will begin by describing the first step of the plan.
“Lose It” is the name of phase one or the first two weeks of the Mayo Clinic diet. According to Mayo Clinic experts, this initial period has been known to cause a weight loss of six to ten pounds, thus inspiring many to keep going in the “Live It” portion of the program.

(Amazon books) In researching this book myself I find that there is time involved in preparing for this diet. Also the cost of having the fresh foods can be a challenge, especially for a big family. Others have reported success with the online subscription of the book, but are saddled with a quarterly fee of $52.00. There is a limited number of recipes with the book itself. Although, looking at the pros of this diet, how much is your health worth when you think of the cost of healthy food versus diabetes or heart disease? Dr. Hansa Bhargava of Mayo says, “Since it encourages eating vegetables, fruits, and whole grains, it can help prevent heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and diabetes. People who already have heart disease will also benefit, as this type of diet is considered "heart-healthy." Publishers Weekly states that this Mayo Clinic Diet is a “well rounded plan for dieting right.” While the online subscription is not free, it does provide daily inspiration and recipe tips as well as tools to guide you in tracking and making good food choices.
