Mayi Child Soldiers

“I remember the day I decided to join the mayi-mayi. It was after an attack on my village. My parents, and also my grandfather were killed and I was running. I was so scared. I lost everyone; I had nowhere to go and no food to eat. In the mayi-mayi I thought I would be protected, but it was hard. I would see others die in front of me. I was hungry very often, and I was scared. Sometimes they would whip me, sometimes very hard. They used to say that it would make me a better fighter. One day, they whipped my [11-year-old] friend to death because he had not killed the enemy. Also, what I did not like is to hear the girls, our friends, crying because the soldiers would rape them.” This is just one account from a child soldier that fought named Jacques that was recorded by the DRC. There are many more accounts of why child soldiers are the mistreated victims in these affairs. The reasons why they are the victims is because child soldiers are manipulated, child soldiers have no choice the things they have to do, and my last reason is it almost never end well for the child soldiers. My first reason why child soldiers are the victims in these affairs is because they are manipulated into fighting. When countries governments collapsed kids are forced into the streets and the best option at the time was to go to a military base hoping for food and other necessities. So now think about this, if you forced to do all these horrible things and had no choice but to do what they said of you would be killed, would you want to then want to get rescued from them, but then have to spend the rest of you life in
