Mayans Achievements

The Ancient Mayans were one of the most intriguing societies of the New World. To this day no one knows what happen to their great civilization. Why they abandoned their lushes forests and jaw dropping monuments. Although, Mayans still exist in coastal regions of modern day Latin American countries, these individuals are descendants of those great constructors, mathematicians and astronomers of ancient times. Most of what we know about them today has been discovered and, learned in recent years. The Mayans had many astonishing achievements, but the most remarkable one was their trading system. Although, their trading system was unrivaled they had numerous of other accomplishments. Their number system was very advanced for their time period. They understood the concept of zero hundreds of years before any other civilization, but they managed to carry hundreds of pounds for miles on foot. They carried loads between eighty to a hundred-fifty pounds. Porters carried products for ten hours a day at a speed of one to three miles per hour. They didn’t have large animals to carry them, such as, a horse. They also lacked the invention of the wheel. Some of these goods did travel by sea with the use of canoes. Their architectural system was very advanced and organized for the amount of technology they had. They managed to build colossal constructions. They built monuments, pyramids, temples and palaces. A lot of these buildings were to honor and praise their gods and rulers. The Mayans first temples arose around two thousand years ago. These large buildings were more than two hundred feet high. Human sacrifice was an occurrence on these temples, but not as common as the Aztec. The quality of the temples varied.
