Each story of creation references different ideas. To explain how the Earth came to be, the Hopi explain how a Spider Women created most all elements of nature (Handout). The Cherokee story explains that children disobeying their parents are to blame for a lack of available food (Handout). The Cherokee story of creation places a large focus on women. Women bore a child every seven days, reaped corn, then the women prepared food. The men fulfill a very masculine role in the tale, they were to hunt animals, and animals that then became evil and vengeful (Handout). The Hebrew bible places more of a focus on men.
