Have you ever thought of yourself being a caged bird? In the autobiography, I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings about the sensational Maya Angelou. Marguerite “Maya” Johnson is a caged bird living in the south during the 1930s. Maya and her older brother Bailey were sent off to their grandmother (Momma) in Stamps, Arkansas, because of the lack of parenting from their progenitors. Maya learns that racism flows like a river throughout her time in Stamps. Later on in the book, Maya starts to recognize three women who are her positive role models. Maya recognize that her mother (Vivian Baxter), grandmother (Momma), and Mrs. Flowers all succor her into the person she became through their independent ways, the epitome of strength, and helps get her
