Maya Angelou was a woman of many talents, but her finest ability captured her audience through pure experiences and raw descriptive language. Born April 4th, 1928, Ms. Angelou lived a prosperous life, although her early beginnings were filled with devastation and grief. Faith and continued worship eventually alleviated Maya Angelou from her sufferings and turmoil. Williamson (2014) explains, “An early exposure to spirituals and gospel music deeply influenced Angelou’s poetry, which displays a clear rhythm of gospel music and which reveals a woman who’s faith sustained her in difficult time” (p. 3). A vast majority of her renowned works deviated from her own life experiences, conveying a sense of connection between readers and Ms. Angelou.
