In the short story “Guy” by Maya Angelo; narration, illustration, description, cause and effect, classification, process, and comparison and contrast were the writing patterns used that to convey the purpose. Angelo’s overall thesis was to “See my old mother in glory” and as well to “Meet with my dear children in heaven”. Angelo described the night as with “breeze”, the breeze as “intimate and shy”, “licking”, “sweeping”, “with unseemly intimacy”, and “disappearing”. In the short story “Guy”, the day was described as “insistent”, “much more bold and thoughtless”, and that it “dazzled”. Her eyelids were “closed”, and her bed was borrowed.
