May 4th Shooting Research Paper

In High School we were sadly not taught about the May 4th shooting and as a High School history teacher that is something that I want to teach my students because it is such a big thing. At DKS is the first time I actually heard the story. A boy was very knowledgeable on the topic. I was told that the US guardsmen shot and killed 4 people and 1, a girl, was simple walking to class. He told us that prior to this date that there was ruckus due to a biker gang and they threatened a guardsmen and the guardsmen thought it was one of the students, however, at the May 4th center I learn that the guardsmen weren’t even at Kent state yet until after that date. Then the kid told me that the ROTC buildings mysterious caught fire and that’s what causes the guardsmen to actually come. I learned that they were protesting Cambodia. It was a big time for protesting for different subjects. There was a separate by generations. Parents were the ideally classic people and the kids started to become what we know today as hippies. There was a split idea on what was going on it. Kids would protest the war and parents would protest the kids. After the May 4th shooting there were many other campuses that started to protest over the war and what happened at Kent. All of this could have probably been prevented if the mayor of Ohio just found a way to control the state and simply allow for peaceful
