Maxwell Kane Quotes

One day I was eating dinner with my mom at her work, and a group of two walked in. They did not look special or important they looked like normal people, but sooner or later people started to get up out of there seats and asking for the women's autograph and taking pictures with her. Soon i noticed that she was someone i’ve seen before but could not figure it out. As me and my mom were leaving and the couple was gone it finally hit me that it was the actor who plays wonder woman. I was so shocked because she did not look like anyone who was important or famous. This shows the same Theme in the book “ Freak The Mighty “ As freak (Kevin) is crippled and does not look like someone who is smart and is capable of making friends, but turns out to …show more content…
The character of Maxwell Kane is first described as a butthead it say on page 4 “ Well, I was a butthead , because like I said, I never had a brain until Freak moved down the street.” One other description is that maxwell was very big it also says on page 4 “ The summer before eighth grade, right? That’s the summer I grew so fast that Grim said we’d best let the boy go barefoot he’s exploding out of his shoes.” . If we were to judge him solely on his appearance, we might assume that he is A goon, stupid, or a loser that has not friends. In fact, when we see him, he is helpful on page 12 it says “ What i do, i keep out of range of that crutch and just reach up and pick the paper thing out right out of the tree… I go, ‘ you want this back or what?’ “This is the time Max helps freak get his ornithopter of of a tree because he …show more content…
and there’s this weird-looking little dude, he’s got a normal sized head, but the rest of him is shorter than a yardstick and kind of twisted in a way that means he can’t stand up straight and makes his chest puff out, and he’s waving his crutches around and yelling up at the movers.”. If we were to judge him solely on his appearance, we might assume that he is different or not normal. In fact, when we see him, he is a genius it says on page 46 “He really does keep a dictionary in his knapsack, it’s his favorite book… Yeah right. Easy for a genius to use the dictionary, since he already knows how to spell the word.” . This shows that he is smart and can be intimidating when it comes to smarts. Freak (Kevin) is also fun and likes to explore on page 44 “ ‘ Get outta bed, you lazy beast! There are fair maidens to rescue! Dragons to slay!’ “ This shows that Freak (Kevin) is imaginative and always has to be doing something fun. However, later we see him also on page 44 it says “ ‘ Hurry up with the cereal, how can you eat that much, you big ox, come on, let’s do something’ ”. This refutes our initial judgment by showing that Freak (Kevin) is just like every other kid that just wants to have fun and make

“An interesting example of a s successful New England story written by someone who knew nothing of New England!” This quote was said by a critic who has read the novel “Ethan Frome.” The novel contains the aspects of love, hatred, and poverty throughout the novel. “Ethan Frome” was written by Edith Wharton and was written to practice the work of realism. Edith Wharton makes this novel as real as it could possibly get with the love affair between Ethan Frome and Mattie Silver, the hatred relationship of Zeena Frome and Mattie, and the lack of money and wealth in their family.…

In Little Brother, the main character Marcus is disrespectful for example his principal, since when is in trouble, “ [they] stared at each other across the desk. Ethan Frome takes place during the winter in the town of Starkfield and surrounding rural areas. The harsh winter is crucial to the development of characters in the novel and also to overall theme. The winter causes the characters to become isolated and make decisions that they would not normally make. For example, Ethan and Mattie make a rash decision when they decide to commit suicide by sledding into a tree rather than choosing to face their problems. The narrator describes winter in the following quote, “…this phase of crystal clearness followed by long stretches of sunless cold; when the storms of February had pitched their white tents about the devoted village and the wild cavalry of March winds had charged down to their support; I began to understand why Starkfield emerged from its six months’ siege like a starved garrison capitulating without quarter.” The preceding quote clearly shows the effect that winter has on the the…

1,150 miles of nothing but ice cold snow, and determination. This is the reality of the Iditarod, a race the main character of my book Gary Paulsen competes in. This race takes place in Alaska where elite runners face the hardest terrain in the world and cover 1,150 miles of land with their dogs. In this book, Gary starts training with practically no experience and no racing dogs to run the longest race in existence but, ends up not only running the race once but twice and wins the second time. This shows the determination of Paulsen along with his refusal to give up. Some of the challenges he will face are mental blocks and trying not give up along with other challenges of finding dogs to run and training. Winterdance addresses the hardships of running the Iditarod, the fight for survival while being very simple, descriptive, and serious.…

    Zaroff Pride Quotes

    • 504 Words

First, throughout the whole story Zaroff can be characterized as confident. The first reason he can be called confident is that he gives his prey a three-hour head start. Zaroff says, “I give him a three hours’ start.”(Connell 50). This shows that Zaroff is confident because he is sure that if he lets the get a three-hour head start that he can still catch them and find them. The second reason Zaroff can be characterized as confident is that he traps sailors’ ships and has them washed ashore. Zaroff says, “”They indicate a channel,” he said, “where there’s none: giant rocks with razor edges crouch like a sea monster with wide open jaws. They can crush a ship as easily as I can crush this nut.” (Connell 50). The last reason Zaroff can be classified as confident is because he thinks that he is the best hunter, he said, “To date I have not…

In “The Female Link: Citation and Continuity in Watchmen” by Erin M. Keating, the author adds to the discussion of women in comics by negating that Watchmen was not an example of “the revisionary superhero narrative” because women were still being represented as conservative. Watchmen does not address the societal gender identities but rather it continues the gendered identities that were already in comic books. “In Adult Comics: An Introduction, Roger Sabin describes women in comic books as ‘‘invariably either plot devices (there to be rescued) or sex symbols (all plunging necklines and endless legs)’’. The author describes that Wonder Women was created as a sex symbol to appeal to male leadership by her creator, William Marston. Unlike Wonder…
