In paragraph eight, Maxine has tried to speak in the American school, but the teacher frightened her by asking Maxine to speak louder. In my opinion, the teacher was somewhat a little insensitive, even though it is possible that the teacher was only asking her softly. Then she looked towards the other Chinese girls who sat quietly in the class and thought that she was meant to stay silent in the American school. I totally disagree with her way of thinking, because she abandoned speaking and didn’t try to do it anymore. On the other hand, I know that I will do exactly what Maxine did because I was afraid to do something that people around me are not doing
