Maxi Pad: A Short Story

First, it was dark. Then, I opened my eyes. Damn this daylight savings time, it's 7:50 and it's still dark outside. I don't care that it's morning. I'm already late for school. There's no reason to not sleep even more. It's not like anyone at school is going to care that i'm not there. Except Maxine, but she's my best friend. She kind of has to care about me, but no one is forcing her to care about me. I was asleep for a little while before I received a text from Maxine that woke me up. Her contact in my phone is Maxi Pad. She hates when I use both of those words to refer to her. “Dude, where the hell are you?” She texted, I assumed she wanted me to text her back. “Not at school, obviously” I replied . That might have pissed her off because she never replied back. Normally she replies back at lightning speed. I would've texted her back to see if she was angry at me but I got hungry and didn't care anymore. …show more content…
But I have no job and no money. I live with my parents but they expect me to wake up to go to school by myself. Hell, in 3rd grade I almost got expelled because no one ever bothered to wake me up to go to school on time. I avoided that by moving in with my grandparents for the rest of the school year. And I lived there until the summer right after 6th grade. My grandparents by then were fed up with raising more children. They said I was a pain in the ass and didn't want anything to do with me. It was a wonderful thing to be told during such a hormonal time in my

We waited in line for about 40 minutes till we went through security, then we were officially at the music festival. We had just left the merch booth when the first text came, I never read it myself but I believe it along the lines of ‘How are you?’ it was innocent enough, she was just inquiring about the status of her daughter. Throughout the night the texts became more rapidly occurring and more intense, I could see that my friend became progressively more and more stressed and anxious as the night went on, she would constantly be worried that she would miss so much as a single text from her mother, which was very likely to happen since we had earned spots extremely close to the stage, the music was so loud we could feel the beat strongly in our chests, so how could either of us hear a phone ring?…

I would first like to thank Frostburg State University for accepting me in their institution and giving me the chance to further my education after my high school scholar years. I have enjoyed my time at Frostburg State University and with hard work I have been able to make the dean’s list and be accepted in the Honors program during the first semester of my freshman year. I hope to continue to work even harder during the second semester and throughout my school career. As a small university, Frostburg has enabled me to benefit from many things, such as the small size classes. Now that I have gotten used to college and life on campus, I believe it is time to continue to push myself to work harder and to attend an institution where I could be academically challenged and can be surrounded by many people who share my profession.…

Dan Caplen sings towards the end, “And every once and a while I start texting, write a paragraph but then I delete the message...”. This verse of the song relates to both of the topics of rationalization and indecisiveness in relationships. What he is saying is that he wanted to text her, he wanted to share his feelings but he held back, and didn’t take a chance. He feared showing her all of his emotions only for her to think less of him and not to share those feelings.…

My parents have said to work hard and do my best in school. I never understood why until I got older. The reason they told me to do my best in school was because they wanted me to think about school and my future. Both of my parents didn't get the chance to go to college. They both came to the United States looking for what most people come to the United States for ‘The American Dream’, they wanted a place where they could raise their children and find a stable job.…

Studies show that students are more alert after nine o'clock. With school starting at 7:44, the first two periods seem like a waste. Students aren't learning to their full potential, and as a result aren't getting the grades they are capable of. Over twenty percent of all high school students fall asleep in school at one time or another. It's hard to learn while you're sleeping.…
