Maurice Bavaud's Assassination Of Hitler

On November 9th 1938, one of the early attempts of the assassination of Hitler occurred. Even before the start of World War 2, some individuals including Maurice Bavaud believed that Hitler was not suited for Germany and would be a blockage from the nation prospering. In Bavaud’s case he believed Hitler was an incarnation of the devil who needed to be taken down.

World War 2 started on September 1st, 1939 so if Bavaud’s shot was successful the war could have been avoided. There were many events which pushed the world to the brink of war however what sparked it off was the invasion of Poland on September 1st. Hitler believed that the Germans (Aryan race) were superior to everyone. The ideal Aryan had the purest blood, blond hair and blue eyes. The reason Hitler wanted to invade Poland was for their land. He wanted their land for his “superior German race.” If Hitler was assassinated, it is likely that the Deputy Führer, Rudolf Hess would’ve taken over Germany. Hess would not last very long as he was not fit for the job especially due to his lack of power compared to the other rival leaders. This would leave leading members of the Nazi party Heinrich Himmler and Hermann Göring who despised each other competing for the chancellor position. However, each individual lacked leadership which was a crucial skill. Eventually, the competition between the two would get heated suggesting possible assassination attempts all over the Nazi government. There would be a lot of corruption and problems within the Nazi government which could possibly lead to a civil war. Germany would not be a threat to Europe until this internal conflict was solved.
