Maureen Dowd: Case Study

Decent Essays
Rachel,
I enjoyed reading what you wrote about Maureen Dowd. Before starting this week’s assignment, I had not realized how many well known people had committed plagiarism. In the case of Ms. Dowd, it is disappointing to think that she would commit plagiarism whether it was intentional or not. I know strive to be very careful when reading and preparing to write a paper, that I cite all my sources. I remember one time of having to leave some wonderful information out of a paper because I couldn’t find where I had received the information from and I did not want to commit plagiarism. Plagiarism is a slippery slope and one that should be avoided at all costs. It does not take long to find and cite a source and it will benefit you in the long

The process of writing this essay made me realize that throughout the semester my topic was very board. The position paper helped me understand what my argument was. With other writing assignments for example, the “rhetorical analysis” paper, I didn’t really focus on my own perspective of my topic but rather focus my attention on two articles with similar themes and which one presented their idea better. One of the strongest points I notice in my essay is listing a lot of examples of environmental injustice. The biggest one is the flint Michigan water crisis.…

Maureen Dowd is an emotional writer because she expresses herself in her writing, for example, “A #FreeMelania meme thrives and Paul Rudnick is conjuring “Melania’s Diary” in The New Yorker, in which she went to the Women’s March incognito and chanted, “Keep your tiny hands off my reproductive rights!” The author projects her emotions towards this topic effectively because one sees her emotions toward Donald Trump due to her creative thinking of Melania’s view of Trump. She motivates her audience because she rallies them around a topic, for instance, she rallies her audience around her topic that Melania breaks the norm of a typical First Lady. In the article, “Plagiarism, as common as it is these days, remains reprehensible,” Jim Carnett wrote to the LA Times about how you can plagiarize yourself. With all the websites/ software today that can detect plagiarism, it makes it easier to find out if somebody is taking somebody else’s work and not giving them credit for it (this would be defined as plagiarism). Due to this, there are numerous amounts of people getting accused of stealing another person’s work. This needs to be condemned. We can’t have people going around stealing work and claiming it to be their own.…
