Maureen Condic's Argument Against Abortion

I am all for abortions. Women should be able to make their own choice without taking criticism for their actions or needing the consent from anybody else. Both supporting and opposing sides have some reasonable arguments but at the end of the day, nobody should be told what they can’t do in life unless it is totally illegal. People control their own lives with abortion, nothing more nothing less. What somebody decides to do with their life shouldn’t affect you in no type of way unless it pertains to you. There are more pros then cons which justifies why abortions shouldn’t be judged as a wrong doing. A baby shouldn’t be allowed into this world unwanted. Having a child is an important decision that requires consideration, preparation, and planning. Abortions are justified as a means of population control. Abortions reduce welfare costs to taxpayers. Maureen Condic, a professor of neurobiology at the university of Utah explains the claim that fetuses feel pain during the abortion procedure. The most primitive response to pain, “The Spinal Reflex” is developed by eight weeks’ gestation which means that the fetus suffers pain. After 20 weeks of gestation, the fetus will feel pain the same way we feel pain. For the religious people, abortion is the killing of a human being, which defies the word of God. Critics say that women should not be able to use abortion as a form of contraception. One critic claimed “It is immoral to kill an unborn child for convenience”. Other critics say that women are not mentally stable to deal with an abortion because it causes psychological damage. Young adult women who undergo abortions may be at increased risk for subsequent depression. In my opinion, these most of these cons seem to be biased because there is no evidence for most of them. They are more based on how people feel instead of statistical

They don’t want the government to have the right to tell us what to do with our rights, whether it be with abortions, contraception use, etc. However, being pro-choice generally has a negative reputation. It’s assumed that they want women to terminate pregnancies, they want people to be able to “legally murder”. When in fact, pro-life people are against any type of murder just like pro-choice people, they just believe that women should be able to do what’s best for their life when it comes to their own body. Being pro-choice does not mean you support murder.…

Since a cleft lip does not affect the wellbeing of the mother any government aid should be provided because it is solely a preference decision. Some abortions may be necessary because of specific conditions, but because of a baby not meeting the desired checklist, should not be allowed to receive government aid on an abortion because it is a decision that was made because the parents would not be happy with the child they would have…

Some people say it’s their choice whether they can kill their baby or not but people should choose not to kill an innocent child. Abortion is a very controversial topic these days with many opinions. Personally, I am strongly against the idea of a mother killing their unborn baby. Also, if a person is not financially stable enough to have a child they should take every precaution so that they don't get pregnant. There are also programs for people who are not financially a stable enough to take care of a child so that cannot be used as an excuse.…

The controversy behind abortion is widespread and undeniable. While there are many oppositions to performing abortions at any stage of pregnancy, women should not be prevented from making a choice as to what happens to their bodies. Any beliefs regarding pregnancy and abortion return and depend solely on what the woman in the situation herself believes, and under no circumstances should she be told what she is allowed to with her body. The extent of a woman’s right to an abortion should be unlimited. There are countless oppositions to this stance, yet I firmly believe that each individual has the right to decide if they will undergo something as tremendous and consuming as carrying another entity within them for months.…

One objection is that no matter the circumstance you are pulling the trigger on a life. It doesn't matter the time you are stopping a life and preventing its right to life. Now that you are pregnant it is your responsibility to cherish this life and take care of it. You cannot end this life and say it is justified. Just like pulling the trigger of a gun you are not first-hand killing a person, but you are making the choice that ends in a person's death or harm.If you are okay with abortion you are okay with all murder.…

It is her body and she has the right to do whatever she wants with her body, however abusing abortion is not acceptable. Abortion is not a form of contraception therefore it should only be used for specific purposes like Hursthouse stated. There are exceptions for getting an abortion, but not everyone sees it that way. No one can say what anyone should do in the case of getting an abortion or not unless you are the one in that position. The exceptions include rape, health, and overall health of the fetus.…
