It seems that throughout American history that if you weren’t the typical “white” American your voice wasn’t heard, as if their opinions and values were “muted” from the “white” American. Society had been become so “whitewashed” throughout time that if you were any other race you were basically invisible in work and society besides with your own group of people. This doesn’t only apply to race as gender also plays a big role into this as well as women were not as privileged as the men. Out of Units 1-3 I choose to discuss article 1, 3, 5, 6 and 34.…

In Australia stress is a part of daily life, but most people do not know how to deal with it healthily and efficiently enough for the stress to have a minimal effect. The health effects of stress and the more serious cases of chronic stress can lead to detrimental mental and physical conditions, some irreversible (Mayo Clinic, 2013). To help stop this epidemic, a group of students and myself organised an activity in order to decrease the stress in our school environment. Schools are one of the most stressful places for a teenager so we decided to target that stress so they can focus on assessments and exams that were coming up in the next term. In recent times schools and the government are not putting enough resources into reducing stress…

In this chapter, Wacquant compares and contrasts his theoretical analysis of the reduction of social welfare programs and the expansion of penal institutions—which are both used to neutralize the undeserving poor and manage the social insecurities that have arose out of economic deregulation and desocialized wage labor—and the theoretical frameworks of other prominent individuals, such as David Garland and Michel Foucault. 2. The concept that I am having the most difficult time understanding is the second major difference between Garland’s analysis and Wacquant’s analysis of crime control, which is that the response by the state towards the increasing social insecurity is coherent and organized.…
