Mauna Loa Creative Writing

I never expected something like this to happen in my short lifetime, Mauna Loa was erupting for the first time in twenty-five years. I watched as the ash rained down on the roofs of nearby houses, coating the entire town in what could have been perceived as warm, black snow. I felt my heart rise into my throat, causing me to choke out a dry sob. I was twenty-one, I finally had a house, and now I was going to die in this massive storm of lava and rubble. I watched as the people outside were running around, they were clueless and terrified, lost in their own terror of death. They were screaming and in pain, and I did nothing to save them, just stayed in my small home as I watched hell fall upon us. …show more content…
My friends who were outside seemed to be calling me out, possibly to die with them, but that wasn’t my intent, I wanted to be alone. In times of terror like this, people did crazy things, and if I were to do something crazy, I didn’t want anyone’s eyes but God’s and my own to see it. I quickly knelt on one knee and began to pray for something, anything at all to stop the madness outside. Then I realized that nothing was coming to save any of us, so I decided to end it before the boiling, gelatinous liquid could get me. I walked calmly to the kitchen, pulling open one of the drawers attached to the kitchen island, the squeaking of the wheels was painstaking. I cocked the gun in my hands, pressing the barrell to my temple before glancing up at the ceiling, “God, please forgive me,” then I saw

Everything was silent. The only noise you could hear was the wind whistling and the sound of raindrops crashing down on the window. The night sky was black as ink, there was not a single star to be seen and there he was standing in the dark all alone watching the atmosphere change ferociously. The howling of the wind grew louder every minute. The raindrops grew larger.…

Thank you for the response Amber and to be honest, I would take Fort Huachuca of Augusta any day. Not because I grew up on the west coast and try to stay west of the Mississippi, but because of the bad experiences I had with a unit from GA. As far as the reading, thank for the advice, but unfortunately when it comes to literature, I have to read it way more than twice to get the meaning and event then sometimes I miss the point. Hopefully, it won’t be as bad as I think.…

The moon hung high in the sky. A perfect silver disk, bleaching the land into a ghost-like replica of daytime. Its supine rays endowing the island with an eerie glow, it seemed to radiate a cold majesty, its beauty bordering hypnotic. The name Ariel sprang unbidden to mind, she seemed to resemble the moon in every way possible. Her eyes cold and distant.…

The group of friends standing right in front of us jumped and sang every word of the songs being sung. We were only 30 seconds into the first song he sang, there was no one in the crowd in sight just standing there. Days before, I remember counting down for the day to approach. Waiting for that day filled with country music, sunshine, cowboy boots, and hats. It was the stereotypical perfect day, i've been waited for this the entire summer, ever since we heard of it on Wild Country 99.…

Now I have nothing, now we seemingly have nothing. The yellow and red burning waves seem to take more and more with each reach, the bed ,the sewn clothes, or the food. What seemed to be a second is what could’ve been a minute to an hour, but in time I paused and no longer thought that any of what was mine could be salvaged or that tiny hope the great fire could just blow out because why did this happen to me. I just think to myself “oh god, why?” and stare at the gleaming red, yellow, and orange. I stand and stare at the dust, the ash, and what material items were there are not anymore.…

Lost The shrieking sirens pierce my ears; the shrill of wailing shells torment my mind, as the rifles’ metal shells puncture my home. I run outside to witness the invasion of hell. Only the corpses of wives and husbands and children left in their footsteps.…

A part of me always knew that I’d have to tell the story of the big quake- and I always hoped that I would never come to that. When it happened, my mind froze. I was sitting on my couch, reading ‘The Kite Runner’. I was trying to prepare myself psychologically to get up and knock some things off the to-do list; picking up my sister from work and before my mother got home to a house that would be hopefully clean.…

“Oh no!” Grace gasped in horror, realizing what had happened upon seeing the familiar shape and size of the wooden crate. “I saw those floating away from our boat earlier in the storm. The wind must have broken the compartment and knocked the crates out when we were being jerked back and forth earlier.” “Well, we’ll just have to work with what we’ve got,” Chris said in his usual abnormally positive tone.…

Driving west from New York City is a surreal experience. I went from the busy streets of Brooklyn to skyscrapers in Manhattan, to the suburbs of the outlying towns over the bridges. Around an hour into the trip, the road was submerged in a forest with hardly a house visible from the highway. Further down, was mountain chains, interspersed with agricultural lots and pastures. The climate was snowy in the winter by Lake Ontario, but some New Yorkers go there during the summer, if they can’t afford to go to the Hamptons at the tip of Long Island.…
