Maui Ethical Dilemmas

I do not believe that Alan should take the offer of going to stay at the condominium in Maui which is owned by Grand Beef. The reason being is because although Alan’s friend, Steve, was being kind to offer a place for Alan, Steve should not mix his work life with his personal life. One of the Categories of Ethical Behavior that deals with this matter is maintaining confidentiality. In the text it mentions that, “Employees should not use, either personally or through a competitor, information they have obtained through their employer’s work or research.” Although it does not state that Steve shared any personal information with Alan, he still offered him a place to stay which is owned by Steve’s company which should not have been brought up and should only be used for himself or his employees. The next category of Ethical Behavior that is involved in this case is loyalty and conflict of interest, which as stated in the text, is conduct that compromises an employee’s allegiance to that company. Another Category of ethical behavior that is involved with this case is integrity and truthfulness. If Alan were to take Steve’s offer he would not be truthful to himself or his job because he would be accepting a kind gesture in order to help a friend with employment opportunities for his company which is morally wrong. On the other hand, if Alan were to accept the offer, Steve would benefit by having his company, Grand Beef Franks as one of the cities vendors which would show that Steve has no integrity.
