Matt's Traditon: A Fictional Narrative

Afraid, the boy jumped into the well. Down and down he went until finally he smashed into the liquid below. The well was actually a large chasm filled with water. The boy struggled to keep above the water. They pulled his legs trying to drown him. He fought for air but it was too little too late. He went under and felt as the bony fingers wrapped around his mouth, he could feel his life fading away. His skin, rotting on his body, fell off in large clumps. Only moments from now he would only be bone. Yet just as his hopes faded, a light brighter than the sun, shot through the cave. Tracking these ghouls was hard, yet rewarding work. Matt lived for a fight. He and his partner, Joanna, swept through the abandoned, desolate town. The houses were burned to the floors and piles of bones lay scattered on the ground. Blood covered the ground and was smeared across the well. “Clearly this is the work of necromancy”, Joanna said. Matt had to agree, ghouls just did not come close to towns anymore. Not on their own anyway. The biggest ghoul incident in the past 5 years was when a lowly farmer and his mutts was slaughtered wandering too closely to a summoning circle. “But….the arts of necromancy have been dead for over 50 years”, Matt argued. They would need to look into the situation further before alerting the Skealigorn mayor …show more content…
Cool and translucent the body lie there, against a bank within the well. It’s disfigured body was sickly and it’s skin was charred and mangled. Yet, the beast was still alive. Just as Matt began to draw for his silver sword, the creature had pulled itself onto the bank. Matt lept through the air, hacking with his sword. The beast, not intelligent enough to dodge, only knew to attack. Matt’s cut buried deep into it’s shoulder, steam hissing up and into the air where he had struck.
