This book closely examines Lincoln's writings and speeches and avoids direct engagement with previous Lincoln historians. Eric Foner stated that "His intent is to return Lincoln to his historical setting, tracing the evolution of his ideas in the context of the broad antislavery impulse and the unprecedented crisis the United States confronted during his adult life." (Foner prefacexvii) That being said, Foner said he wanted to isolate Lincoln's exact thinking on slavery at different times in his life, while also trying to break this image of Lincoln that he feels scholars have all given him. Often by referencing Lincoln to themselves, thinking they understand the way Lincoln felt and thought about slavery.…

David Matthew’s essay ‘Pick One’ is an eloquent essay filled with imagery, symbolic language and sensory details that bring the reader into Matthew’s world, but is lacking in some structural aspects and leaves the reader without a satisfactory conclusion. His vocabulary notwithstanding, Matthew’s essay is spectacularly descriptive and easily conveys the atmosphere he felt as a child as he takes his readers through the experience he is sharing. There are areas, however, that could be analyzed as outside the trend and lacking in the colorful language that the rest of the paper exhibits. While most of the paper is well expressed, the conclusion can be felt as abrupt. The main point of the paper is only broached in the last paragraph while the beginning only builds up to the ending reveal.…

The Danish Cartoon Incident is not the only one of its kind; there have been several occurrences in the past that have revolved around the concept of prophet illustrations being forbidden. Although this incidence in particular included the Muslim prophet, Mohammed, the overall theme is similar to the Christine concept of Iconoclasm. Now, this topic is quite a sensitive topic which most definitely offends many individuals, because religion is a red line to many. Even though, in my opinion, Robert Tracinski was very harsh and aggressive in his article “Publish or Perish,” I still agree that the dictatorship in countries, such as Israel and Syria, are an issue. Yet, I don’t believe that it is the only issue that has triggered incidents like this…

The election of Donald Trump as the 45th US president has left an uncertain future for the IT service sector. While it is too early to analyze the effects of Trump’s protectionist policies, the IT world remains apprehensive partly due to Trump’s anti-trade campaign rhetoric. “With the value of IT-related exports now surpassing $100 Billion annually,” Arup Roy, an analyst at Gartner argues that if Trump’s campaign promise transpires, the IT industry, particularly Indian companies will face a dampening effect on growth prospects. The newly elected president promises to take a tougher stance on offshore service companies.…

And Still We Rise by Miles Corwin 1) In this book there was two teachers, Toni Little and Anita Moultrie. These two teachers had different styles of teaching their class. One way of teaching that really popped out at me was how Toni assigned an essay to the class to see the difference in writing of the student. Perhaps the single, most common answer to the question of the purpose of school is that it is to shape young minds in preparing them for the future. For some, school is where they go learn skills and techniques useful in the work world. For others, they are just forced to go to school, to be hassled with the burdens of overwhelming assignments, which deprive them of their ever so fulfilling social lives and other salient priorities. However, for the students in Crenshaw High School, school was a sanctuary, a safe haven; the only place where they felt accepted, worthy and optimistic. School was their only outlet where they could openly express themselves, especially in their English classes.…
