Biblical Book: Matthew: Born-Palestine-fl 1stc. AD. Death-fl 1st c. AD-Day Unspecified
In the biblical book essay I chose to write about the Book of Matthew in the New Testament. The Book of Matthew is known as a narrative genre with Matthew, one of the twelve apostles, an evangelist being known as the author of the first Gospel of the Bible in the New Testament. He was also known as “Levi, son of Alphaeus” (Luke 5:27). The book was written in begins as a genealogy of Jesus life starting with Abraham (Mt 1:1-17 NIV) to Jesus resurrection in (Mt 28:1-17 NIV). These writings were written in the earlier part of a.d. 50 when the gospel was being preached to Jews only (Acts 11:19). The purpose of Matthews’s writings was to prove that Jesus is the Messiah and show the lineage of Jesus from David. Matthew intended for his audience to be fellow Jews, who refused to acknowledge Jesus as Messiah because they wanted to have a Messiah who fulfilled their desires and do what they would have him do on their terms (Mt …show more content…
Joseph stayed with Mary because he was a righteous man (Matt 1:18-19 NIV). Jesus was born to Joseph and Mary in the land of Bethlehem. There was a period of time Joseph and Mary encountered having to flee for their lives because King Herod of Judea had pledged violence upon Jesus. This was told to Joseph by an angle (Matt. 1:20-21 NIV). They fled to Egypt and later returned to the Holy Land after Herod had died (Matt. 2:13 NIV). Joseph and Mary eventually went to Nazareth in Galilee and Joseph taught his craft as a carpenter to his son, Jesus (Matt 2:22-23 NIV). After this point, Joseph is never mentioned again throughout the Bible. How he died is unknown but assumed that it was before the ministry of Jesus began and before the Crucifixion. (John 19:26-27). This story captures the trust and love Joseph and Mary had for God and for one
