Matt Vack: Group Analysis

Great Essays
Choosing the leader was one of the most important processes in this project. The leader we chose for our group was Matt Vack. The first time meeting with the group we all talked about who wanted to be the leader and who should be the leader. We chose Matt because he felt comfortable leading us as a group and was confident about it, Matt also volunteered and said that he has no problem doing this. So then Matt was the chosen leader of this group for our project. Delegating the duties throughout the group was a group effort. We all agreed to meet on Tuesdays and Thursday to talk about the project and work on the project. At the end we would talk about what still needs to be worked on in order to have a productive session the next time we would …show more content…
We asked eleven questions in order to keep it short but long enough for us to the information we needed. The first question that was asked was if themselves or a family member ever been involved in a domestic violence, out of thirty people twenty-four of them said no and seven said yes. A follow up question if number one was answered with a yes if they felt comfortable was who the abuser was and who was abused. Out of the yes’s the dad or step dad was the abuser and the moms were the ones getting abused. We were shocked that some people would even tell us if they have ever had an encounter domestic violence. The answers we got were what we were expecting when asking who the abuser and victim was. The second question of our survey was do the people that were surveyed know who they can call other than the police to get help with domestic violence, nine said yes and twenty-one replied no. the third was what do people think are the top two causes of domestic violence, drugs/alcohol and family problems were the top two causes we got. Number four went with number three, for the people who did not say drugs and alcohol we asked if they thought it plays apart in domestic violence all of the people surveyed said yes except for one. This question was one we were expecting …show more content…
We chose Sgt. Wall because Matt, Jared, and Chris had heard him speak in some classes about his involvement with juveniles and his job. For that reason we thought he would have experience with domestic violence cases so he was asked if he was willing to be interviewed for the project and he agreed. To start off the interview we asked Sgt. Wall how the police department defines domestic violence, he stated that they define it by its battery but the victim has to have a relationship with the abuser in order for it to be a domestic violence. He then said something that was interesting and something we did not know, he told us that if a domestic violence happens three times it then the person charged with domestic violence can be charged with a felony. After this we asked him how many cases of domestic violence there was in Monroe County last year, he told us that they do not have it broke down by just domestic violence sense it is a type of battery, but there was 1,301 cases of battery last year in Monroe County. We continued by asking what he feels are the top causes of domestic violence and his answer was much different from the surveys. Sgt. Wall said it is about the upbringing that the people who were involved had and that if their mom or dad had the issue then their children were also more likely to have an issue in the future. After this question we asked him what is the

We are disappointed by Lorin Bradbury’s explanation of why women stay in domestic violence relationships. A more important question is “Why do batterers hit and attempt to control a person whom their cultural norms tell them to love and cherish?” This would have been an opportunity for the religious leader, Pastor Bradbury, to apologize for the countless Christian pastors over the decades who have counseled women to stay with abusive partners. It would have been the opportunity for the psychologist, Dr. Bradbury, to acknowledge the complex situation a person faces when they love and need someone who becomes dysfunctional and abusive when they drink. It would have been an opportunity for the human being, Lorin Bradbury, to show more insight…

Out of all the topics discussed and read so far in this course, I connect more with the domestic violence topic. Before taking the course I did not understand why someone, specifically a woman would want to stay with a physically abusive or mentally abusive partner. After reading Domestic Violence: Intersectionality and Culturally Competent edited Lettie L. Lockhart and Fran S. Danis I was enlightened and slightly informed. Once we went into depth in class I had a greater understanding and became very informed on the topic. I found out that there are several reasons why women choose or have no other choice but to stay.…

In The Social Dynamics of Family Violence by Angela Hattery and Earl Smith, they state that “intimate partner violence refers tot he physical, emotional, psychological, and sexual abuse that takes place between intimate partners…between two people who claim or claimed to love each other” (Hattery and Smith 205). Intimate partner violence in a heterosexual relationship can be summarized as a person’s desire to control the power in relationship and force women to be dependent on the man. “There are 2.5 to 4.5 million physical assaults inflicted on adult women by their intimate partner per year” (Hattery and Smith 203). This estimation is believed to be less than what may actually occur because domestic abuse is not sufficiently reported to authorities. A reason as to why women do not fully report these crimes could be that they do not see themselves as a victim, knowledge that an actual crime was committed against them, or simply because they believe that it was a one time incident that will not happen again and they want to forgive their partner.…

The ripple effect of violence against women spills over into the family, the children and can create a generation force for years to follow. Another issue with violence against women is that it is heavily unreported. There are a few major concerns about this particular type of crime going unreported. It hinders the ability for law enforcement to track the consistency of the crimes as it relates to victim and suspect profiles, patterns of behaviors as well as locations favored for this type of delinquency. Through research utilizing victimization surveys, it was found that about half of domestic violence victims interviewed reported their last violent incident to police.…

The leading of a team or group is not a simple task but involves real life skills that take time, thinking and commitment. The role of leadership is an essential aspect of an organization since it can determine the difference between success and failure. “Although leaders are gifted in different ways, with different personalities and varying skill sets, all leaders can grow, become more skillful, and become more competent so that they can achieve greater effectiveness” (Ledlow & Coppola, 2014, pp. 10). At times, leadership may seem overwhelming and complicated, but by concentrating on specific fundamentals they will find that they can guide the team with the assurance and competence. There no one style of leadership, in fact, there are several…

Normally the males would go to jail for domestic violence on a woman, but in today’s society the female gender domestic violence has been on a rise in recent years. You would think that males have more testosterone that they can over power women, but it’s the women that are being the aggressor. Just like the accident that happen in Bossier City that the women had stab the male victim for having an affair. Which she had committed a crime of passion and was charge with first degree murder.…

Hypothesis: If domestic violence is continually seen as non-violent to law enforcement, then abusers will continually get away with the incorrect form of punishment. I support my hypothesis to an extent at this point, but I feel as though I should have rephrased it differently. After I did more research over domestic violence and over the laws regarding domestic violence, I am beginning to see that there are holes in my hypothesis. I do believe that abusers will continually get away with the incorrect form of punishment, but there are not exactly guidelines for what the punishment should be for the abusers. I realize that this is how all laws are, but domestic violence branches off into many different categories.…
