Malone’s dumpster diving tale is told by Randall Sullivan, a writer who jumped on the opportunity of firsthand experience when he heard of Malone’s peculiar success. Sullivan tells the story chronologically, while making it all the more entertaining by allowing readers to feel present during Malone’s astounding dumpster discoveries. It is only until we speculate Sullivan’s skillful word choice and precise writing techniques that allows us to uncover how well his storytelling enhances our infatuation. While it is likely that Malone has more often found nothing more than, well — trash in the dumpster; Sullivan is quick to emphasize the dumpsters’ most desirably sought after items. “I got brand-new stereos, GPS devices, some really nice cameras, flatscreen TVs. I got a boom box there that was bigger than I am.” This quote alone would catch the eye of almost all varying audiences. Yet sadly, most will uneasily flinch upon hearing just where these perfectly good items came from. Malone’s unimaginable dumpster diving triumph was successfully told, leaving readers in awe at the irony of possible treasures that may lay in the last place we would ever think to

These products lasted only a few weeks in regular store shelves, before the public completely rejected them. The story serves the purpose to present the ironical situation that they’re in, and capture the reader’s attention, by demonstrating how the failure of those products, resulted in the success of the museum. “Perhaps nobody wanted to contemplate the prospect of failure” (Burkeman 2012). However, at the end of the day, the beach is covered in crud that was left behind. David Barry finds situations like these infuriating. To empathise his hatred of littering, Barry wrote the short story “A Couple of Really Neat Guys”, which uses hyperbole and eccentric characters to convey that littering is wrong.…

The potential usefulness of the landfill and garbage dump studies was seen by Rathje as being an unknown world, everything learned about it was new. This allowed Rathje to set a number of precedents and new insights with his study of human consumption behaviour with concern of garbage such as his three house hold waste syndromes which will be discussed later in the essay. With political debates centering around greater environmental issues such as climate change, air pollution, and the alleged fifth mass-extinction, a dog-owner may wonder why signs saying “please pick up after your dog” are appearing more and more in neighborhoods and parks. However, with 83 million dogs in the US producing 10.6 million tons of poo a year (Freinkel 2014), a contributor to the intensification of these greater environmental issues is the methane produced by this waste and the “doodie” bags used by owners. Despite the creation of “eco-friendly” biodegradable bags, such as what Paul Canella has promoted on Poopbags.com, the $49.99 spent on 360 of these bags does not compare to the 1000 normal bags for only $14.89.
