He perhaps symbolizes the majority of people today in high school. Tim is a very unmotivated, and unintelligent kid who relies on his athletic abilities to get him through high school and get into college. Tim is one of the most popular kids at Dillon High, despite the fact that he has no motivations or aspirations in life. He is constantly getting into trouble with the law, whether it be for alcohol or drug use, or assault. He bullies all of the kids who he feels are less that him because his family life is less than optimal. His mother and father are not in the picture because they were too drunk to raise him, so his brother and he had to raise themselves. In the beginning of the show Tyra does not try in school and has the same path as Riggins. She would would go out, drink all the time, and disregard everything that was truly important to her. Tyra was raised by her sisters who were all strippers and barely able to take care of the rest of the family, and she knew she wanted to make a better life for herself. At the start of freshman year Tyra had a GPA lower than a 2.0 and all of her teachers, friends, and counselors told her that she would never get into college and never make anything of her life. She used these words and inspired her to work as hard as possible to get her grades up to a suitable lever. After working for the rest of her high school career, she finally got good grades and applied to and got accepted into the University of Texas. The stereotype that highlights Tyra is the person who slacks off their freshman year, but then later realizes that they need to work as hard as possible in order to get their grades up in order to get into a good school. She symbolizes a success story of someone who managed to turn their life
