Is Reggie Shaw Irresponsible?

Technology has an everlasting impact in the lives of many people. From the moment the technology was established, an enemy was created. A new and dangerous habit that most Americans have developed over the past couple of years is texting while driving. Texting while driving is the mistake that changed Reggie Shaw’s life forever. The author of the book Matt Richtel is trying to portray Reggie Shaw as irresponsible because he is texting while driving, and he refuses to take responsibility for what happened; however, college students who read the book will see Reggie as a deceiver instead because he wants people to think he is innocent. Reggie Shaw is a nineteen year old boy whose life change forever on September 22, 2006. Reggie is involved …show more content…
He is unable to go on a mission, because he had premarital sex with his girlfriend Camille, and now he is involved in a tragic car accident with two fatalities. When Reggie visits Gayln White, he let down his guard. He cries like a baby because he feels guilty for destroying the lives of many people. Reggie is missing lot of important details he is unable to picture what happened(90). After the session Gayln tells Reggie to write to the families of the victim not necessarily to send them but to express himself (91).In late October Reggie get a job,even though he has a job he still felt deeply lost. Sometimes Reggie flashes back to the accident (159). Towards the end of the year Reggie accepts Van Park’s offer to help coach the sophomore’s basketball team (158). Reggie became Greg Madson assistant basketball coach. Basketball brings momentary belief to Reggie (159). Reggie Shaw life will remain changed forever, the consequences of his mistake will continue to hunt him down for the rest of his life. Reggie is irresponsible and a deceiver because he texted while driving, lied about the accident, and deceived people to think that the accident was caused by hydroplaning. All because he doesn’t want to get in trouble, he covers up his tracks by lying. Even though he lies he nightmare of the accident still replays in his head.
