Identity politics is an engagement in opposing discrimination such as racism, sexism and homophobia ("What Is the Left Without Identity Politics?", 2016). Identity Politics is not an alternative type of politics but another form of politics. People depending on the race, sex or even their nationality will always be criticized.
I believe that politics play a key role in the civil rights, feminism and the LGBT movement and will continue to do so in the future years. It seems that in politics people are always divided when it comes to the general public and some seem to battle for these rights and some don’t feel that these group of people should have rights. These people can be lesbian women, gay men, Asian-Americans, Native Americans and individuals that have certain religious beliefs. These individuals seem to take the brunt of not having equal rights as white Americans
