Matriculation At OSU

Improved Essays
The most meaningful act that caused me to continue my matriculation at OSU was the environment and opportunities the university offers. I graduated with 33 students; there was another Black student in my class. I have always been in the minority; when it came time to decide where I wanted to attend the college I considered an HBCU. I thought an HBCU would offer me the community and experience a PWI could not. However, since I was born in Stillwater and my father received his Master’s Degree from OSU, I decided to give the university a shot. I took a tour two years ago and the first thing I noticed was the tight community the campus resembled and the various resources to support students.

Does an HBCU offer an African American student more than a PWI? An HBCU, “is a Historically Black College or University, that was founded by our ancestors to educate us on our history as African-American descents.” Before HBCUs were a thing, African Americans were free slaves that were not allowed to get an education. This did not stop them from learning a way to read, write, and calculate math. The Philadelphia Quakers founded the Institute of Colored Youth, so the children will have the opportunity to get an education.…

The late computer lab hours really helped me to be able to get my school work done after my night classes ended. Everywhere that I go I advocate for Wor-Wic because it is truly more than an institution, it is like another family to me.…

After the joyous reunion hugs and hellos, I headed off to my classroom that I would be helping in. Glancing out the window I instantly knew that it was one of those picture perfect days. The sun already shining, and a cool breeze just strong enough to lightly brush through my hair. Back in the classroom however, the temperature was not so pleasant.…

Dr.Piper’s idea of Oklahoma Wesleyan University is something myself can agree with. The doctor’s notion that the kids of 90’s generation are afraid of being hurt is completely true.
