The art that Matisse did gave leeway for several artists after him to follow in his steps. The technique will vary between artist to artist, myself being one of them, but the same basic principles are there. There's a huge disconnect between every artist today since we don't share this universal formula when it comes to making art, and this historically relates to Matisse's work since he was one of the first artists to branch out even further from the formula that made established art. My art practice is in many ways connected to Matisse's work, but in some instances I can see my art style steering just far enough from him to a point where it becomes my own art style. My paintings are similar to his since I will often try to add complimentary colors to my artwork, and often I'll make it so that there's a lack of space seen in the canvas. I do this since it not only makes the subjects pop out for the viewer to see, but it also makes the work feel more upfront and personal to the viewer. My art will vary from Matisse since I will tend to add volume, solidity and an insane amount of detail to my work. The reason why I do this is so that the figures presented in the painting feel natural and life-like. They not only set forth a new status quo to be upheld, but it gave forth to new ideas concerning what techniques to use when making art. His influence is prominent in history, and amongst all of us who wish to pursue art
