Math is key to a successful career because if you don't know math you will not accomplish the task you are trying to complete. If you do not learn math while you go to school and are faced with something in life that requires math you will not be prepared for it. In the movie hidden figures, they show how math is very important not only in the everyday lifestyle but in the workplace. In the movie hidden figures, they not only showed that math is a very important skill to learn, they showed women are just as good as men.

Rudy showed the men at NASA that she knew what she was doing when she walked up to the board and determined where the rocket would end up and how everything would go up in space, she proved to them that not only men can do those types of jobs. Everyone thinks only men can do certain jobs because they are stronger or smarter than women which are not the case. For example, in the career of firefighting it used to be almost all men firefighters and now women are proving everyone they can do what the men can do just as good if not better, the same is also happening with the military now that they are letting women in to enlist to their branch of choice.

As human beings we don’t have the luxury of being able to choose between becoming a male or a female, and regardless of what technology has to offer in the next generations to come it should stay that way. The idea of a man or women ever being more superior to another is an absolute disgrace to our society. In order for our country to function the way it does, men and women on a daily basis must work side by side under no restrictions. In all honesty, being a male I grew up not having to deal with all the sexism that goes on in a girls every day activities. I don’t blame the strong willed women for rebelling and going against the common stereotypes that are tagged against them, I would do the same.…

Many luxuries are granted to the citizens of the U.S. such as technology that helps us get through the day. These luxuries are not available to people in other countries and I believe that if I had to step into one of the four children in the movie On the Way to School I could handle living Carlos’s life. Carlos lives in Argentina and is 11 years old which is near my age, but that is the only thing we have slightly in common. We live completely different lives and Carlos does not have all the luxuries I have. Out of the all the other kids Carlos is the most modern of the four his clothes are similar to mine and he lives in a small house made up of bricks.…

The Joy of Stats Nishant Sinha Kennesaw Mountain High School The Joy of Stats One statistical trend I could identify from Dan Hillman’s film The Joy of Stats was the growing difference in the quality of life between eastern and western countries for a span of about 138 years, beginning in 1810. The primary cause of this trend was the industrialization of western countries such as England and the United States, leading to higher life expectancy and greater income (Mayr, 2017). Following the growth of the quality of life gap, a contradictory trend began in 1948 when the practice of colonialism ended. Since then the quality of life gap between eastern and western countries has been decreasing due to the increased export of valuable resources such as oil from developing countries (Hillman, director, 2010).…

One thing that mathematics and movies have in common is that they are incredibly interesting. However, when you put two great things together, there are potential discrepancies that make the experience a little disappointing if you look deeper into it. There have been some brilliant films about famous mathematicians who have changed the way we look at mathematics for the better. Unfortunately, movies, in general, tend to have a reputation for moving things around and fixing the information so that it is easier to understand from an outsider’s perspective, but the outcome is not always negative. However, films have succeeded greatly with portrayals of various fields and historical events that can shape popular culture and bend younger generations’ perceptions of the truth and variations of reality.…

Men also criticize women by claiming that they are weaker and incapable of doing the same things. The traditional idea of women having to take care of the kids and house was also a role that was pressed onto women which was an incorrect generalization. Men also hold better job positions such as CEOs, the men to women ration on positions like this are usually always male dominated. Women are also sexually abused and assaulted more frequently. About 1 in 5 women get sexually assaulted unlike the 1 in 72 men ratio.…

This also is not backed by very convincing information or facts. I have seen many successful women at the top of many companies and playing important roles in our country. One example of a very successful and powerful woman is Hillary Clinton who has a chance to be the first woman president of the United states. She also says that more women aim for leadership roles but I find this very hard to believe I know many girls that are aiming to be in leadership roles when they are older. All women are capable of doing both working for a living and having children since they are not he only one raising them.…

Any female in the STEM field goes in knowing that she will be a part of the minority. Most girls are told be prepared to be in classes where the majority is boys. Most adults tell them that they should not get distracted by the boys, and their fellow girls say that they are so lucky to be surrounded by boys. It is as if girls cannot be in a class to actually learn, but instead their only focus is on being around boys. A female in STEM is already fighting the stereotype because the STEM field is predominantly male.…

Even now in 2016, a man is more likely to be considered more likely to be qualified for a job position than a woman, even if they have the same experience and level of education. All reasons why I feel that this is an issue that effects more than a small group of people or an individual. Through the presentation of studies and statistics, there have been many efforts by more and more companies and places of employment in order to hire more women into positions that would predominantly be held by men. There has been more and more advocacy in recent years in order to have women in positions of authority within companies. A theory that I have learned about through my internship is the Glass Cliff Theory, which explains that a common issue within companies is that they are more likely to put a woman in a position of authority such as a CEO position, when the company is going south in profits, as a means to turn the company’s current downhill fall profitable again.…

At the start of this scene we see John on the phone to Mr Harrison through a wide shot, Mr Harrison explains to John that their calculations have come out wrong. “Get the girl to check the numbers” John expresses to Mr Harrison over the phone. My childhood memories regarding learning mathematics has been for the most part positive from 6th grade onwards. From 1st grade to 5th grade I was not conscientious so at times math tests produced anxiety but math was, at the same time, easier and simpler back then. I recall being the fastest person to state the multiplication tables in 4th grade. During 6th to 8th grade, although I was not necessarily the smartest, I landed at the top of the class in advance math since I was very hard working. However in 9th grade I recalled a horrific incident.…
