Diabetes
Diabetes is an extremely common disease that inhibits, or cuts off completely, the body’s ability to produce insulin. Insulin is a hormone that allows people to get energy from food. Without this chemical, the person must manually monitor their blood-sugar levels. Over twenty five million Americans, and 371 million people worldwide, have been diagnosed. Still more people are unaware that they have this disease. There are two main types, simply called Type One and Type Two. Type One Diabetes is caused when the immune system attacks and immobilizes insulin producing cells. Called Beta cells, these are located in the pancreas. Type One diabetes can affect children and adults at any age, and is affected by both environmental and genetic factors. This type of diabetes has nothing to do with diets or lifestyle choices, and cannot be prevented. This disease’s onset is quite immediate, and forces the person to rely on insulin pumps or injections to function properly. Most cases of Type Two Diabetes can be prevented by fixing an obesity issue. This connection between Type Two Diabetes and obesity as opposed to birth have led to it being dubbed, ‘Adult Onset Diabetes’. Also, there is a recognizable condition called prediabetes that you can be alerted to before diabetes has fully set on. A signal of prediabetes is a high blood sugar that can still be controlled by conventional means. Once a person is diagnosed with Type Two, they can still work it off. A healthy, carefully monitored diet and a significant exercise regimen can cause the diabetes to recede.. Both type One and type Two, in order to be controlled require medicine, diets, exercise regimens, and insulin injections to keep the patient alive and
